Match Report - Uganda U19 V Kaduna State | Sept 4, 2021

September 5, 2021

After the previous win by Kaduna state in the first ODI, which was delayed due to rain, but with the aid of D/L a revised target of 193 runs with reduced overs (35) was set for the Uganda U19 team who lost to Kaduna State by 4 runs, the Ugandan U19 team welcomed the Kaduna stateside to the Lugogo Cricket Oval for the 2nd ODI match of the series. The skipper won the toss and asked the visitors to field.

Isaac Okpe and Abdulrahman Jimoh shared the new ball, the former bowling some ‘great pressure’ setting the tone well early for the side, however, the main story of the day was being written from the other end. Sylvester Okpe was quickly into his work bowling is trademark tight lines and good areas, picking up 3 vital wickets in his bowling spell, 1 bowled, and two good catches by Emmanuel Boniface at Mid Off. Slyvester finished with figures of 10 Overs – 3 Wickets for just 39 runs. The rest of the Kaduna bowling attack then decided to chip in with Isaac Okpe, Abdulrahman Jimoh, Emmanuel Boniface, Onwubualili Chidi, Isaac Danladi all got one wicket each, Uganda U19  being bowled out for 140 In 43.1overs. A fantastic effort in the field and with the ball.

With the Kaduna Team needing 141 runs to win, Isaac Danladi and Gershon Yusuf walked out to open the bat. Gershon Yusuf was hurriedly sent packing to the stands after losing his wicket to the second ball of their batting inning. Joshua Sunday joined Danladi but yet got bowled after he faces his second ball in the innings, bringing in Daniel Gim to assist Danladi, the pair settled the nerves for a while moving the score onto 24, Danladi was bowled for 16runs before the light showers which made the team lose 13 overs and was given a revised score of 130runs in 37 overs using the Duckworth Lewis method, hereby bringing in Onikoyi Ademola   "one of the best Batsman and wicket Keeper in Nigeria" at No 5.

Onikoyi and Gim could not steer the ship for long as they did in the previous game, as Onikoyi was caught at silly by Omara Ronald. The captain of the side Okpe Slyvester then joined Gim at the crease and looked calm, composed, and in good touch. The pair moving the score onto 96 before Gim was well caught at long-off for 29. Isaac Okpe then joined Slyvester who then fell to a wind-assisted catch at mid-on for 33 with the score on 98, Jimoh Joined Isaac and helped build another partnership taking the smart attacking options where possible and defending solidly when required, the Kaduna side on the sideline was playing it cool.

Oche Joe Onoja the head coach of the team, standing with the Permanent Secretary Kaduna State Government Mahmoud N Yamusa who had made the journey up to support the team was still smiling from ear to ear, the pair set about collecting the runs calmly in 1s and 2s before a flurry of boundaries (Isaac's trademark lofted drive a particular highlight).

Jimoh finished 19 not out after hitting a boundary 6 down the square leg to end the innings, a mixture of solid defense, clever placement, and of course powerful boundary hitting when required, the anchor of a tricky chase. Another very important win. Team Kaduna will be looking to continue this momentum as they prepare for the T20 game tomorrow and the last ODI on the 7th of September 2021 to end the series.
