TBS Cricket Oval - Back and Better

After 16 months (1year and 4 months) of serious renovation work, the famous Tafawa Balewa Cricket Oval (TBS) would be re-opened officially for cricket activities on Sunday, January 16, 2022.

The official re-opening of Turf Wicket at the TBS Oval has lots of activities lined up for that day, including An Elite T20 Game between selected players from the Honorable Gbolahan Olusegun Yishawu Club Cricket Committee League trying out for size some Ex-Cricket Internationals at 10:00 am. Then at 2:15 pm, President Nigeria Cricket Federation, Mr. Uyi Akpata alongside Board Members of the Nigeria Cricket Federation; Dignitaries, Captains of Industry, and Friends of Cricket would officially commission the re-opening of the Tafawa Balewa Cricket Oval.

Thereafter, a T15 cricket match would commence at 2:30 pm. This event would feature veteran cricketers who are above 50 years, managed by Dr. Patrick Egbe (Former Cricket Team Manager at the University of Ife) and Mr. Ewa Henshaw (Former Coach of the Senior Men’s Cricket Team).

President, Nigeria Cricket Federation, Mr. Uyi Akpata expressed delight at the successful completion and official reopening of the Turf Wicket at Tafawa Balewa Cricket Oval.

‘’His words, During the inauguration of this board last year, we made a pledge that in the next two years we want to compete with top African countries. To achieve that we needed to harness our best talents from anywhere across the globe as well as provide better playing surfaces such as Gahanga Cricket Oval, Rwanda; Sahara Park Willowmoore Cricket Oval, South Africa; Lords Cricket Oval, United Kingdom; Sydney Cricket Ground, Australia just to mention a few. The more reason I am excited today about the progress work of our own “Home of Cricket’’.

He also used the occasion to thank all those who contributed financially and otherwise to the completion of the Turf Wicket Oval at Tafawa Balewa Cricket Oval.

Mr. Akpata concluded by saying after the reopening ceremony we would hand it over to the Club Cricket Committee League who would use it for their league matches.  ‘’After today we would hand this property to CCC League to maintain because players who play in this league go-ahead to represent Nigeria Cricket National Team’’.
